Having managed at several retail giants right out of college, I can give an answer as to why a company might withhold some stock and it's a very simple one...
What if the supplier is abnormally constraining stock of a popular item?
Do you prefer to be out of that item for a week, possibly weeks after it sells out or do you conserve some stock to have some in the store every day and tell some customers you're expecting more the next day?
From what I've read, Apple's shipments of iPads has been constrained.
Clearly, from a retail manager's perspective and even from corporate managers, I could easily see why Best Buy might conserve some stock until Apple gets ramped up and can hit demand. Otherwise your regular customers will get the impression that you're not carrying the product at all and just go buy it somewhere ELSE! At least if you tell them you'll have some more in stock tomorrow, there's a better chance they'll come back the next day.
Trust me, I'm not a big fan of Best Buy, but this appears to be Apple's doing since they forced the issue by making sure their Apple Stores were well stocked and maybe not as much as the retail giants.
Clearly not many people here have managed in sales. If you've got a product you KNOW is going to sell out in a particular time period and you've hit your sales quota and you're not going to get any back in stock for 2-3 weeks, this is not a crazy idea to do.

I am probably going to Radio Shack since I use to Manage one and my best friend is still a Manager at a local store. They are more than likely opening at 6AM and where I live the nearest AT&T store is 30 minutes away and Apple store is 1-1/2 hours away.
I am not sure if I am doing the trade in or not since I have a 16GB 3GS recently replaced by Apple so it's Like New but I really don't want to mess with eBay just to make a couple of extra dollars on it over the Trade-In price.
As for Upgrade Fees I am not concerned since I know the AT&T Rep for the Radio Shack still and I can get it waived regardless. I am sure Radio Shack will work something out and give some sort of incentive because Wireless is their main focus and biggest money maker right now.
I will agree with most everyone else though that Radio Shack has a bad name for itself because of their employees not being helpful and that comes down to the Manager at fault. When I was Manager I ran a tight ship and my store was there to serve the customers walking in and to solve their problems regardless where they bought their product. Stores forget what Customer Service is about. If it were for my best friend still the Manager there I would not be going to a Radio Shack to purchase my new iPhone. I would probably go to the AT&T store like I did with the rest of the iPhones I purchased. Where you purchase doesn't really matter because the warranty will be the same and have the same process.
I just called a local store here in SC and this was pretty much all confirmed. His computer system was down, so he didn't have the info in front of him, but he said it would run pretty much like the EVO did, with a $50 downpayment for the pre-orders. Unfortunately he wasn't yet sure if all stores would be doing pre-orders or just the "in-stock" stores. I'll call back Monday to see if that store can get me a phone on the 24th, since it's close to my work. We'll see, I guess.
I was told the same $50 Down-Payment via a Radio Shack Gift card would be the process more than likely like they did with the Evo. And if a Pre-Order is placed you will receive your phone launch day. The shipments will arrive at the store on the 23rd. This source came from the Store Manager. The Power Mac G5 power supply is in the bottom but it is also isolated from the rest of the case so that the heat doesn't rise through all of the other zones. I prefer the power supply at the bottom. If it is indeed at the top, they will have relocated the hard drives. Hopefully they will be put into the bottom where we can fit 4-8 hard drives.

According to the school's website (http://www.chc.edu/News/2011/February/statement_regarding_jim_st_george/), he was not fired as the OP's article suggests. Rather, his contract was not renewed. AFAIK, adjunct instructors do not enjoy the same privileges as tenured professors. If his contract ran out and was simply not renewed, then that's that, unless it can be argued that the college has some legal obligation to offer a new contract.
well assuming what you say is true then every legal right to do so. Hell it could of been that he should never of been hired and HR screwed up and hired someone that did not meet all the requirements. They honor the contract up until it was time to renew it and they did not intend to renew it to fix the mistake.
I will say we can expect a lot of adjunct instructors/professors to be out of work soon because univerisities are being forced to cut cost and those are the first ones to go.

Because as we all know Costco is the leading reseller and indicator for technology products.
I've found it to be a pretty good indicator of products that aren't selling well elsewhere especially when they show up in pallets at prices lower than most other places.
This happened with the last PPC Mac Mini's and AppleTV 1.

I would have thought that the Final Cut Pro benchmark would have really blown away the G5 - not so much, right?
Awesome on FileMaker and I can't wait to see how this stuff runs Adobe PS Natively.
The vague manner in which they described the test, it seems like this may have been more of an I/O problem than a processing one. Can't say for sure.

I didn't mention Gordon Letwin either. On either point it's rather like mentioning Brian Kernighan and Rob Pike in a history of OSX -- technically accurate but of marginal relevance.

And the navigation app I purchased houses all the map data on the device and doesn't rely on a data connection to operate. Unlike Android's stock navigation.

So the stock application Maps on the iPhone is completely premature compared to the Google navigation on an Android.

When Steve Jobs announced iOS in 07, he said that the OS was 5 years ahead of it's time. Well, he definitely proved it, but 4 years later there are amazing OS around, definitely isn't ahead of its time anymore.
