Absolutely, this is how me and my wife make our living...we work from home and it's all we do.
A stripe set isn't a very safe way to store data. It's faster than a single disk for sequential file access, and it's cheap. But if you depend on that system for a living (i.e. can't afford to waste time fixing it when it breaks = matter of when, not if), then a redundant level would be the way to go. BTW, fixing a broken array = fix/replace bad disk + restore data via backups + re-perform all lost work (what you did between the last backup and the time the array failed). This adds up quickly, especially when working with large files. So you don't want to have to do this if at all possible.
Some other questions that could help, is your file sizes, current capacity needs, and capacity growth (i.e try to design out a system that can grow with you for 3 years as a minimum to reduce overall costs).
Throughput requirements would be nice as well, and your budget.
Keep in mind, proper storage isn't cheap (don't follow the advice from DigiLloyd <favors using stripe sets in his earlier opinions, and it attracts attention due to low cost - but the compromise involved is too high for pros>). Such a configuration is fine for enthusiasts/hobbyists, but not professionals that need a working system all the time. I really can't stress this enough.

What? You repackaged Nocturn, made it a lot less useful and published it as an application? What was wrong with just using Nocturn?

Your chances of recovering deleted files are slim under OSX.
http://www.prosoftengineering.com/products/data_rescue_info.php
"Q: Can Data Rescue recover a file I just deleted (I'm running Mac OS X)?
A: No, there is no tool on the market that can recover deleted files without being loaded ahead-of-time. OS X (UNIX) writes over your deleted file immediately, impeding recovery (this was different in previous operating systems that were not based on UNIX). Our other product, Data Recycler can prevent this from happening by protecting you from this type of data loss in the future."
Thanks

Hi everyone,
Im pretty new to the whole iOS development world so im looking for a developer to work with on music based apps. Im a music producer with 5 years+ experience in electronic music and i have a great interest in sound design for film & fames.
Basically im trying to learn Xcode but i could really do with a coder to help speed up the process. As this is my first venture into the music app world i have no money to fund my project (as yet). If any developers would be interested in working on some stuff they would get a good commission instead of any upfront costs :)
If anyone is interested in joining the team please drop me an email: sam [at] pemb.co.uk
Thanks!

Yup. Also, the temperature difference between both CPUs isn't anything to worry about. For some reason one gets better cooling than the other. Sometimes there's some lint or dust in one cooler. Or, one CPU is mounted a little higher in the chassis than the other and since heat rises it runs warmer.
Nothing to worry about.

Is used "Save As" (CMD+SHIFT+S) and selected "Photoshop PDF" as Format and did not change a thing an I got an A1 PDF out of it that opens in Preview.
If you want to take a look at it, here is the 5MB PDF output from PS CS5: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10644330/MR_Image_Hotlinks/MR_screenshots/MR_screenshots_05_2011/A1_SaveAsPDF.pdf

Well, like i said...I just shipped mine out today after to good run on eBay. I know the next one I have will be equally if not far more impressive, and now I'm debt free until that day comes because I sold mine. Mine is an individual circumstance of course.

Im not just bidding on the receipt or a picture, right? ;)
it sucks that there are people out there who actually try to pull scams like this and sometimes even get away with it.
sickening... :(
BUT, as i say in the auction, BID WITH CONFIDENCE! :)

Hi all,
today I purchased a stylus that's compatible for iPad and iphone..
It works perfectly on these devices, but somehow when I try to use it on trackpad of my macbook pro.....the cursor moves perfect except it won't perform the function of a "click"...
All it ends up doing is just moving the cursor which won't let me draw anything because it doesn't "click"...
I need help!!!

When in Safari (5.0.5), the browser automatically shows as Internet Explorer 4.0 (while using the Develop: User Agent: Default (Automatically Chosen))
When I got to Develop: User Agent: Safari 5.0.5 Mac then it shows that I am using Netscape 6.0!
Why is the User Agent different than the one I've chosen? I have a online Banking site that checks the browser and doesn't support the old Netscape and Internet Explorer browsers. So I end up just choosing different ones until the website finally loads properly.
How can I get it to show as Safari 5.0.5 Mac all the time?

Has anyone seen an increase in pop-up ads appearing while using safari with the bop-up blocker on.
This is driving me crazy.
Does anyone know of a reliable pop-up blocker plugin?
I've seen a slight increase, usually only on 'questionable' sites though so it's not that big of a problem for me. Perhaps someone has an answer....

I have a feeling we'll be seeing the El Capitan for another year at least. Otherwise, why would they bother rearranging the innards for the MDD's? We all know that the massive power supply and heat sink isn't being used fully by the current hardware sitting in there, so we'll at least be seeing that played out (I hope... ).
Personally, I'd go with the El Capitan case for good and not complain. :) The handles are great, the flip-down side is invaluable, now all they need is a front-mounted USB and FW port and I'll be happy!

Back in 2002 I saw a Mac Plus being used in the University of Iowa main library's shipping department. It appeared to be running an ancient version of Microsoft Excel.
I'm more into Apple IIs than Macs, and I've seen some evidence of them in the wild. The Apple II's expandability made it an early favorite of scientists who needed to interface it with a variety of instruments, and it seems it's still hanging around. Examples:
An Apple II Plus (manufactured 1979-1983) being used at Dartmouth for lower-level physics labs:
http://www.dartmouth.edu/~physics/labs/descriptions/ball.spring.html
http://www.dartmouth.edu/~physics/labs/descriptions/projectile.motion.html
The pages are dated 5/21/2004 and 6/16/2004. Identified in the equipment list:
1 Apple II+ computer
2 monitors
1 video camera
1 imagewriter printer/paper
2 AppleStrobe software disks
http://www.easyscreens.info/gallery/20100830/3.jpg
An Apple IIe (from the look of it, a pre-Platinum model, which would place it 1983-1986), being used with a Finnigan MAT-251 mass spectrometer at the Earth Systems Center for Stable Isotopic Studies at Yale:
http://earth.geology.yale.edu/escsis/escsis2006.ppt (PowerPoint file - page 3 shows the setup)
It seems the Apple IIe was the standard controller for the MAT-251. They had this setup as of but their homepage now notes: "The system has been retired and cannibalized long ago." :(
http://www.easyscreens.info/gallery/20100830/4.png
Another Apple IIe, used with another mass spectrometer, at the Trofimuk United Institute of Geology in Novosibirsk, Russia:
http://list.uvm.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0512&L=ISOGEOCHEM&P=R6818
The post is dated 12/15/2005:
We have some troble with Apple IIe computer which is operating of MAT
Delta mass-spec.
Only symptom is blinking of all leds, including leds in floppy slots, in
keyboard and power on led inside the computer.
Power unit was checked and is Ok.
Any advise will be highly appreciated.
Six days later, he fixes it the old-fashioned way:
http://list.uvm.edu/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0512&L=ISOGEOCHEM&P=R8422
On case anybody still playng with such old machine.
Symptoms: nothing working. All leds are blinking. Screen is also
blinking. Power unit looks Ok. Live looks horrible.
Solution: do not believe to your tester!!! Replace ALL electrolytic
capacitors in Power unit.
Strictly speaking, I doubt it was necessary to replace all the capacitors, but as someone that still goofs around with a soldering iron, I was gratified to see him doing this level of repair. :)
I'd bet money on the Russian Apple IIe still being in use!

I have my home dir on a separate drive. It's really easy, there's no need to create filesystem links of any such thing. There is a field in NetInfo manager which is the path to your home dir. Just change the path and then copy your dir to the new location.
You won't be able to delete your current home dir until after you reboot.
i know that will work for another drive, but doesnt it read Partitions differently?

My only hesitation was that if I pre-ordered I wouldn't know for sure if I could get that day off work. But then again, I'd be in no worse a position than if I couldn't make it on the day having not pre-ordered!
I know what I'm talking about, honest. lol
Isn't it open till late? Or maybe because it's in the Eldon Square they close at 6pm, I really don't know as im from London - But I'm *hopefully* going to Newcastle Uni in Sept, If you cover my flight costs i'll buy it for you and deliver specially to your workplace  :apple:
